a charity about clarity
It is hard to believe that a year has passed since we lost our founder William Yeoward.
William took life by storm and he did so with an energy and a passion that inspired everyone around him. As one dear friend said, “his love of life pulsed into your being”, he was “a master of friendship, love and the art of how to live”.
William brought that same energy and generosity of spirit to the creation of Screw Cancer because he was determined to create something positive and helpful out of his own personal experience with the disease.
It was William’s vision and energy which led to the launch of the Screw Cancer App in 2019 and which continue to motivate the dedicated Screw Cancer team today. Initially developed for patients with colorectal cancer, it was always William’s vision that the App would be a tool for all patients diagnosed with cancer.
To that end we will be launching the second stage of the Screw Cancer App later this year to support patients with the following cancers: Laryngeal, Tongue, Thyroid, Breast, Prostate, Oesophageal, Kidney, Lung, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, Leukaemia and Ovarian.
Inspired by William’s experience and the importance he placed on the App being a practical tool for patients, we have been fortunate enough to have received the generous support of individuals who have themselves been diagnosed with one of these cancers, and their input has been invaluable.
As William said about cancer when he launched the charity, “sadly our club isn’t very exclusive or choosy about whom it recruits”. Sadly for us all, it chose him. He leaves behind a legacy which we are committed and determined to fulfil with all the energy, enthusiasm and passion that was William. We miss him enormously.

William was a designer living and working in London. As many do today he was living with cancer and had been for a while. He found his experience to be a test of his inner self. His resolve was to make a difference where he could.
Mike Nicholson and William worked together for over 20 years. Before William died, Mike composed this song 'Nothing at all' as a thank you for all William’s support. Mike played this at William’s memorial service and today it is the soundtrack for a moving tribute to William by our colleagues at the company which bears his name. Mike has donated his composition to Screw Cancer and encourages anyone who would like to download it to make a donation to Screw Cancer through our JustGiving website.
Happy memories from William’s friends at William Yeoward.
